Environment, Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS)

Abu Dhabi Environment, Health and Safety Management System  (AD EHSMS)

On 1st February 2010, the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi Emirate issued a Decree approving the establishment of AD EHS Center. The Center aims to ensure the implementation of Abu Dhabi Emirate Environment, Health and Safety Management System (AD EHSMS) through provision of an integrated regulatory framework for management of all issues related to occupational health and safety and through control of negative impacts resulting from working places.

An Environment, Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS) is a management tool that integrates all Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) management components of a business into one coherent system. The integration of these components allows the business to achieve its objectives efficiently by managing its impacts to the environment and minimizing occupational health and safety risks. This integrated approach requires combining all EHS internal business management practices into one system; and the different management components of the Abu Dhabi EHSMS Regulatory Framework (AD EHSMS RF) require effective links between them to ensure a complete system that operates as a whole

The AD EHSMS RF incorporates the key requirements from the following International Standards: Environmental Management System (ISO 14001); Occupational Health and Safety System (OHSAS 18001); Environmental Management System Auditing (ISO 19011) and Risk Management Principles (ISO 31000), into one integrated system that also recognizes the commitments and aspirations of Abu Dhabi Government

Sectors:

Under AD EHSMS, there are currently 11 Sector Regulatory Authorities in Abu Dhabi Emirate these include:

  • Building and Construction Sector
  • Industrial Sector
  • Energy Sector
  • Transport Sector
  • Waste Sector
  • Education Sector
  • Food Sector
  • Waste Water Sector
  • Commercial Sector
  • Tourism and Culture Sector
  • Health Sector

Hazard Identification (HAZID)

Identifying and documenting risks systematically

Red Sea Consultancy is a leading provider of HAZID/HAZOP, conducting over 70 analyses every year for numerous clients. There are several consultants with substantial HAZID experience which enable us to put up the best HAZID team for each assignment.

Why HAZID

HAZard IDentification (HAZID) is a well known and well documented method. A HAZID is a systematic assessment to identify hazards and problem areas associated with plant, system, operation, design and maintenance. HAZID is used both as part of a Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) and as a standalone analysis for i.e. installation, modification, replacement, upgrading, reduction, isolation, lifting.

What we do

Safetec has a pool of experts within the fields of technical safety, human and organisation disciplines. The experienced pool enables us to put up either a highly specialised team or a multi-skilled team depending on the task. Safetec provides a strong third party with our knowledge and experience in the field. We also provide courses on the HAZID methodology.

A typical HAZID study will be conducted this way:

  • Familiarisation with background documentation.
  • Planning of the workshop meeting in a pre-meeting with the customer in order to identify HAZID strategy, division of the system (nodes) and identifying guide words.
  • Accomplishment of the HAZID review.
  • Documentation of observations.
  • Draft report for client review.
  • Final HAZID report.
  • Advantages and benefits.

Red Sea Consultancy puts large efforts into high quality of preparation, planning, accomplishment and documentation. HAZID is a qualitative method dependent on the outcome of guidewords, integration and motivation of participants.

Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP)

Systematically identifying and documenting hazards and operability issues

Red Sea Consultancy is a leading provider of HAZID and HAZOP, conducting over 70 analyses every year for numerous clients. A HAZOP study is used to verify the integrity of design or procedures with respect to safety and operability. We have extensive experience and provide highly skilled multi-disciplined teams.

Why HAZOP

HAZard and OPerability (HAZOP) is a well known and well documented study. HAZOP is used as part of a Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) or as a standalone analysis. HAZOP is a more detailed review technique than HAZID. The purpose of the HAZOP is to investigate how the system or plant deviate from the design intent and create risk for personnel and equipment and operability problems. HAZOP studies have been used with great success within chemical and the petroleum industry to obtain safer, more efficient and more reliable plants. HAZOP has become a standard method in the design of process system in the North Sea.

What we do

Safetec has a strong and experienced pool of experts within technical safety. We have extensive experience with HAZOP both as part of the design of process plant either as an independent risk analysis or a preliminary study and modification. This also includes procedural HAZOPs. Safetec can play an important role as third party. We also provide courses in the HAZOP methodology.

A typical HAZOP study will be conducted this way:

  • Familiarisation with background documentation
  • Planning of the workshop meeting in a pre-meeting with the customer in order to identify HAZOP strategy, division of the subsystems/nodes (e.g. line, pump, vessel, compressor), choose relevant Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID), and identifying guide words
  • Accomplishment of the HAZOP review
  • Documentation of observations into information and actions point, document findings on the P&IDs.
  • Draft report for client review.
  • Final HAZOP report.
